Light Bulb question?

I have some of those energy saver swirly light bulbs in my home and one was flickering like it was going to burn out. So when I went to go get another to replace it it burnt out. Are the fumes after it burns out hazardous? I heard that they contain mercury. Please let me know what I should do. Thank you.
