My dreads won't lock, what should I do?

This is my 2nd time, trying 2 get my dreads 2 lock.The first time, I tried twisting it, this time I box braided them & then twisted them.I tried Murray's bee's wax, it worked, but my hair came loose after washing it.I tried pro style the first time, it worked, but after I wash it, it look terrible.Now I used the Rasta locking jell, conditioner, & shampoo.
