Can i get a better blackops ps3 connection? or does my location affect everything?

Hi i love playin me some blackops but i always have a hovering 2-3 bar connection. I get host on rare occasions maybe 1 out of 20 games. i have set a static ip for the ps3 and made it the dmz host on my router. i have done everything recommended for better connection but still nothing really ever changes. The only conclusion is my my location sucks for gaming. I live in hawaii and is my connection so bad because i am a few thousand miles from everyone else ? I have high speed broadband internet with a 8+ mbps. anyone can answer my question?
